Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing gives you all the tools you need to minmise the fear-tension-pain cycle, resulting in easier, more comfortable births

Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal programme focussing on a combination of education, psychology & deep relaxation to help you achieve a more comfortable birth.

Our approach

Since 2008, BirthSense have been helped over 1000 women have easier, more comfortable births, and are widely recognised as specialists in this area. The course was developed by a recognised doula and clinical hypnotherapist, and based on the philosophy and teachings of world-famous obstetrician, Dr Michel Odent.

Unlike many antenatal classes, the course does not focus on prescribed techniques or stages of labour; instead, the focus is on the interplay between birth psychology and the birthing process, and how simply understanding this relationship often leads to the safest, least interventionist way of giving birth. The course discusses the importance of attitude, environment and psychological state in detail, and you will learn exactly what will help you have a smoother, easier, safer labour and why.

In addition, one of the core differences between BirthSense and other hypnosis-for-birth programmes is that, in line with standard antenatal courses, we included a session on breastfeeding and early-days parenting.

The BirthSense difference

One of the reasons people enrol with BirthSense is because of our down-to-earth approach to birth and psychology. We're not into magical thinking; we prefer to present our methods in an uncomplicated, common-sense way, and for that reason we are often asked to work closely with midwives and maternity units, and welcome many medical professionals onto our courses. We are focussed on helping women to give birth without conflict, rather than seeing the medical profession as the enemy, and as we regularly present to midwife groups and birth centres, you can be assured you are learning from practitioners who are known and welcomed in local NHS units.

There are many good practitioners outside of the BirthSense group who can offer you information on alternative therapies, and we will support you in the approach of your choice and are happy to put you in touch with such services if you require them; however at BirthSense we stick to what we know, which (as far as possible) is backed up by reliable evidence. This is one place where sceptics and questioning minds are positively welcomed - you may feel more at home than you imagine.

It was the most incredible experience for all of us! Intense, powerful and magical".
